What does ‘pre-order’ mean?

Orders are placed for delivery at a specific time each week. Our set meals are delivered cold with instructions for reheating and finishing. It is not delivered hot or immediately after placing the order.

Instead of ordering in advance, can I place an order on one of the delivery dates?

Unfortunately due to the nature of our delivery model, we cannot take orders for same-day delivery.

The cut off time for a specific delivery date would be 4pm the day before.

Eg: A delivery day of Friday would have a cut off for orders by 4pm Thursday

Why are there limited delivery dates?

We currently have a small operation which only allows for limited delivery dates a week. As such our meals are delivered cold to give the customer flexibility to serve it when they want.

Why can’t I get a set meal delivered hot / immediately?

Delivering the food cold allows the customer to reheat them when they desire. Each Sri Lankan banquet involves multiple components and garnishes. In order to recreate the best eating experience, certain elements should be heated just before eating to maintain texture or temperature. Rest assured meals are designed to be finished easily with no major cooking required.

How long can I store my set meal?

Up to 2 days in the fridge. Certain meals may have dry garnishes which can be stored at room temperature.

How do I reheat my set meal?

Every meal package comes with a QR code that contains reheating and finishing instructions along with the provenance of each dish. You can view the link here. No strenuous cooking is required.

Is the packaging durable enough to place in the microwave?

Even though our packaging is all sustainable, it is durable enough to be heated in the microwave.

Could I serve or heat up the curries in my own crockery or containers?

Yes! Yet the packaging we have sourced is microwave friendly and our containers are bowl-shaped to mimic standard tableware. Our intention is to make the storage and serving of each dining experience as easy as possible with the packaging provided. However, if you prefer to heat and serve the curries in your own containers or crockery that is absolutely fine too!

Is the packaging sustainable?

Yes, our containers are made from sugarcane pulp and certain lids are made from bio-plastic made from a plant-based oil substitute.

Is the packaging home compostable?

Yes, the sugarcane products are certified home compostable to Australian AS5810 and European NF T51-800 standards and commercially compostable to Australian AS4736 and European EN13432 standards. Our clear bioplastic lids are recyclable but not compostable.

How many people does one set meal feed?

Our dining experiences come in two different sets - one which feeds two people and another which feeds three people. Please check the header of each dining experience for indication.

Can I order extra portions of individual curries?

Yes, you can order extra portions of each dish.

How do I pay for my order?

You can checkout and pay for your order with debit or credit cards.

Do you offer catering style services?

We offer special rates for catering orders for more than 8 people. The service remains the same with the food being delivered cold with reheating instructions. Please note that larger catering style packaging may be recyclable but not compostable. For all catering related inquires please contact us at: andrew@contemporaryceylon.com

Can I alter the components of the set meal?

We do not allow for the proteins or other elements of the set meal to be altered or substituted except for specific situations described below.

What about allergies?

Please let us know if you have any allergies. We will take this into account in preparing your meal. However, we can never guarantee 100% allergen safety as the kitchen stocks items such as wheat flour, nuts, soy, sesame and other potentially reactive ingredients.

If a dish contains nuts or dairy it would be noted.

What if I am a vegetarian or vegan?

Certain dishes are vegetarian or vegan friendly and this would be noted. On request, we would omit specific ingredients to make the entire set meal vegetarian or vegan friendly. In the case of the main protein dish (eg chicken curry); it would be substituted for a set vegan option. However, please note that on rare occasions, a completely vegan alteration may not be possible depending on the dishes on offer.

To request for the entire set meal to be made vegetarian or vegan friendly, please make get in touch with us via social media or email us at: andrew@contemporaryceylon.com

For situations where only one diner is vegetarian or vegan, we recommend simply sticking with the set meal as is and add on an extra vegetable curry or two to your order.

What about other dietary restrictions?

We do not cater for Keto, FODMAP, Paleo or other dietary restrictions.

Can I cancel my order?

Orders may be cancelled for free up to 48 hours of the scheduled delivery date.

Orders cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled delivery date will be subject to a 50% cancellation fee.

Once you get to the payment section you will have the option to 'Redeem a gift card'. Select this option and enter your gift card code.
